Comparative Agility

Agile Coaching Personal Improvement assessment

Very early on in the book's development, I thought it might be a good idea to approach Comparative Agility to see if they would be interested in an agile coaching assessment of some sort. I invited Mark Summers to partner with me, and we contacted Jorgen Hesselberg.

Jorgen mentioned that what we might be looking for is to develop a PI assessment, which was different from their typical surveys. It was a new tool/service for them. They had developed a Scrum Master PI and, more recently, a Product Owner PI both with the Scrum Alliance.

Our Agile Coaching PI would flow quite nicely from those two and be the first independent of the Scrum Alliance.

So, long story short, Jorgen, Mark, and I agreed that this would be something of great value to the agile coaching community and began development in August 2021.

Growth & Learning

One of the reasons that Mark and I are so excited about our partnership with Comparative Agility is that the assessment tool—

  • It is personal. It’s not intended to compare you to the industry or others but simply give you a baseline of understanding of your competencies relative to YOU.

  • Captures your competency level (1..5) for each of the stance areas within the Wheel. This gives you a high-level view of your overall balance across ALL of your agile coaching skills.

  • Allows for multiple assessments over time to capture your learning and growth. You’ll see all this via a beautiful dashboard that visualizes your journey.

  • We spent much time embedding learning resources and advice within the assessment. You’ll find it easy to pull together your PI growth plan by following example webinars, videos, and reading to grow and learn.

We think there’s no more simple, focused, well-rounded (pun intended), and rigorous way to increase your badassery as an agile coach.

November 27th, 2023 — Welcome to Version 2 of the Assessment

Mark and I reviewed the assessment in mid-2023 and decided to adjust the format of the questions to help coaches more accurately assess their competencies. We also realigned the assessment to the latest version (3.3) of the Agile Coaching Growth Wheel.

As we did that, Comparative Agility adjusted the dashboard graphics to provide a more intuitive presentation of your results. Mark and I feel this new version contains valuable insights for you to understand your coaching capabilities better and plot your improvement trajectory.

These are recent LinkedIn posts and a Webinar where Mark Summers and I launched the new Agile Coaching PI we developed with the Comparative Agility team.

If you took our initial assessment, we invite you to retake it in the v2 format. And, if you’ve not taken it yet, please consider it. We think it will be a game-changer in your agile coaching skills journey.
