Reminding ourselves…

Caregiving can often seem thankless. My wife Diane, because of her diagnosis, has lost much of her understanding and empathy for what I do and what it takes.

This is a strange development for me, as she was always far more empathetic and supportive than I was.

As caregivers, I think there’s something to be said about reminding ourselves that—

  • What we do matters

  • That we’re making a difference

  • If not us, then who?

on a daily basis. And that, no matter if our loved one acknowledges it or not, they do appreciate us.

Here’s a note from John Schappi that amplifies that point—

As he notes—

It’s important to understand all the hard work and sacrifice that goes into caregiving so we can fully appreciate those who support us and help us age with dignity.

To ALL the caregivers out there—

  • They see you

  • They feel you

  • They appreciate you

And YOU MATTER!
